Command Center Hallway – Home Reno! Cape Coral Interior Design

This Hallway leads to a lot of important places, so it was an ideal spot for our family command center! This was our dreaded before picture as we were still buying the house. That little door is under the stair storage space which I will also do a post on organization under there. As you may notice in our home as well, we had all gold handles. Since we could not afford to replace all handles both upstairs and downstairs, I decided to spray paint them all dark gray color. Now its been probably almost two years and the most used ones are starting to chip away the gray, but it really made a world a difference for very little cost. I will probably touch some of them up until we can get new handles all together.

Where that horrible salmon colored tile is, is the laundry room which goes out to the garage. We put down laminate flooring in the whole bottom stairs except the laundry room, downstairs bathroom, and the playroom still has carpet and we ended up leaving the carpet under the staircase in the cubby storage. Since laundry and bathroom floors can get wet, we opted for vinyl flooring again and it is the best thing ever! So easy to clean, it has some texture to it as well which brings more detail in it, and if it does get wet, it does not ruin anything. The best part…. it went right over that ugly existing tile! We did that in all 3 bathrooms as well. Seriously… people think about vinyl is totally outdated right. Well not these wood planked ones. Love them and I can do it myself! Will post bathrooms and laundry room in the future.

This is my mother in law waiving who broke her foot at the time and that guy in the blue shirt was the home owner showing us around… but that plain white wall to the right of him is where we did wainscoting with hooks. Coming in from the garage, I just hang my purse, diaper bag, etc… and even being so close to the laundry room, I will sometimes hang delicate clothing to dry there.

The AFTER!!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE! Also notice the lights hanging, that desperately need to be cleaned, but they are a clear smoke gray color. When the light is off you cant see through it, but when its on you can the lovely Edison Bulb.It took me forever to find lights that I wanted there in the hallway, and I found these gems at lowes. Look at the difference the spray painted door handle looks compared to the gold! Wainscoting to the left and command center to the right is the perfect combo. Also added a small shelf for some more family pictures and decor because why not…

All time favorite basket purchased at homegoods. Holds our bills that need to be paid and any misc papers I need to hold on to periodically.

This dinner menu is new to me for the past month and it is amazing! I designed it in photoshop and simply printed it as a 16×20 for I already had the white frame in a 16×20. With the glass on top, you can use a dry erase marker on it. Genius!

The kitchen is a few steps away, so also an ideal place for it for our home.

Every Sunday now, I plan 4-5 dinner meals for the week (from Pinterest usually or just Google) and go shop at my local publix to grab it all and the remaining breakfast, lunch, and usual items for the week! This has been a stress free life saver. We used to every single night say.. what do you want for dinner and one of us would have to go to publix and pick it up. Time killer plus they say you spend more money that way! If you want a copy of the dinner menu, email me maria@butterflykissphotos.com

I am not a couponer, but when I get some in the mail I want to keep, I peg them up on board. The mail holder below holds paid bills, misc papers and our gift cards for stores and restaurants. The other white frame holds the same concept as the dinner menu, but a blank calendar.. so each month I can write in the month and any important things happening for our family.

Our Home Makeover – Entertainment Center, Dining Room, Entry Way

Cape Coral FL Designer

Yay, first home renovation post! So these before pictures are when we were actually looking to buy this house, so none of this furniture was ours. I liked taking pictures of the homes we were looking to purchase, for one, it was easier to look back at them when making a decision, but two my creative brain was already envisioning what I could do to them! There were a ton of things that I loved about this house and I knew this would be the perfect one for my husband and I, and our eventually growing family.

Pros of this house:

-gated community

-its located on a cul de sac which also meant we have a large backyard

-family friendly

-two stories (which we really wanted)

-lots of space to grow

-and a big one for my creative brain, it was pretty much a blank slate

This blank wall below where the previous owners tv is, is pretty large and I knew I wanted a wood wall with the tv on it. I also love decorating shelving and seeing our family photos on display (of course, im a photographer) so I had to make sure to incorporate in the design, shelving. Now I see all this posts about floating shelves, which I wanted, but it was a little too much work for myself so I compromised and did a “look alike” floating shelves with brackets that I wanted to make blend in.

So this is it and I used peel and stick vinyl planking!!! I used a cutter like a large paper cutter is what it is and it was super easy. Time consuming, but much easier then cutting each piece of wood and then nailing it to the wall which I will get to the wall below. Our tv is actually flat with the wall, so there is a hole cut for the tv!

For the build out, I used 1×6 wood for the sides and the front is very very thin plywood which is attached to the 1×6’s. From there, I had a surface for the vinyl planking. I then proceeded to hang the shelving up and decorate (best part)!

These are the brackets I used. They are in the hardware section and they are silver. I spray painted them to match the color of the stain/paint I chose for the shelving. Instead of having the bracket hang below it, I reversed it and put it up top knowing I would have stuff to cover it up.

Entry Way and Formal Dining Room! Did I mention Blank Slate, told you! Whoever lived here before us were ummm…. ???? Anyways, first thing we did in the house before we even moved in, was the flooring. Ripped up the carpet downstairs and my husband and a friend laid down our laminate flooring.  In the meantime, we were painting all these white walls! Before and after pics below. We did a neutral gray for the walls called Abalone in Sherwin Williams paint. Added chair rail as well and still needing to add the wainscoting squares below it. Someday that will happen. We also updated our baseboards when we did the flooring and added trim to those pillars.

Summer Lemonade Stand Mini Sessions. Cape Coral Children’s Photographer

Happy Summer, or should I say welcome to hot, humid, mosquito, rainy summer! This was a the perfect setup to capture for Florida Summers. While we are enjoying the pool days here you cant go wrong with some lemonade. Now adding a cute lemonade stand with even cuter children…. that equals pure sweetness!

These are some of my favorites from these sessions with one more in the making.

A boy and his plane. Fort Myers Creative Children’s Portraiture

little boy in box airplane

Kids imaginations are the absolute best aren’t they? I strive to speak with the parents and see if their is anything the kids love or love doing at this stage in their lives. Here in SWFL we have beautiful old oak trees that I love to take advantage of. This particular shoot was taken off the beautiful road of McGregor in Fort Myers and the neighborhoods feel oh so cozy. We simply made this plane out of a cardboard box and used the box flaps to make the propellers and tail. For the straps we used ribbon and cut slits in the box to weave it through and drew some detail on the box with a black sharpie! Oliver had a blast flying his plane, i’m not even sure he realized I was taking his pictures.

Welcome to the new Blog!

Hey you, Welcome to my new blog. There are a couple things I will still be working on and adding, but here is a run down of what you can expect! Not only am I going to be blogging about my amazing photo shoots both portraits and weddings with their stories, I am going be occasionally posting about organization, home projects and a little bit of fashion. Why? Because thats who I am and thats what I do! I am no fashion guru, but I do love it. Now organization I try my best at and always feel the need to organize. It just helps me function and feel more peaceful, amen anyone? Home projects…. yes, my husband wants to kill me when I bring up the words I’m thinking…… Im going to tackle this next “whatever the project may be”. Now majority of the time, he’s fine with it, as long as I am doing it. haha. Of course if I need his help for a few things, he will. Gotta love him, thank you Hubby. So I hope you guys love the new journey that will be happening on social media live/posts and on my new blog.

Heres a favorite quote I like to live by in Business….

Dallas Gray at 18 months old . Cape Coral Child Photographer

Florida Summers are Hot! What better way, besides swimming of course, then to soak up the sun with some lemonade by your side. This little man below is my son. I can not believe how fast time is flying. I thought time flew by after graduating high school, and well which it did… but having a child seems to make the time go by faster. As most moms out there may say…. slow down time, slow down. Cherish all those little and big moments, milestones, even tears and of course laughter because in a blink of an eye, its gone. Tomorrow is another day and today will be a memory.
